Starting Point: Vision-Language Models for Dental X-rays

Overview

Dental panoramic X-rays are read manually by clinicians, and there is growing interest in whether general-purpose medical vision-language models can help flag findings such as missing, decayed, or impacted teeth. This project is the starting point for exploring that question, built around a public dental radiograph benchmark dataset.

Method

The current stage is setup and data preparation: getting a medical vision-language model pipeline running against dental panoramic radiographs and establishing a baseline workflow before any modeling decisions are evaluated.

Status

This is an early-stage project rather than a finished result. The immediate goal is a working baseline on the benchmark data; findings and comparisons will follow as the work progresses.
